Did Ivan Pavlov have other pets?

Image
On most weekend days and occassionally through the week, Nancy and I take our dogs for a walk in the Park. 4 Westies from the age of just under 2 to 15 years. The walks are over 2 miles long and because the older dog can't walk so far, we bring a stroller for him. It is one of the 3 wheelers you see joggers pushing. The old dog looks like he thinks he is the king of all dogdom sitting up while being pushed.  So many people stop to take pictures or comment on the dogs, especially the old guy in the stroller, you may have have seen us on You Tube or somebody's FB page. A good time to solve the problems or mysteries of the world is while you are walking you dogs. My thoughts this morning... Did Pavlov have other pets? And what did they do when he rang that bell?

A week after sleeping with the windows open. Over 100 hours straight of below freezing temperatures.

Fair Play

I have always found unique town names interesting.  While driving last week, Fair Play popped up on my GPS.  Maybe I had driven many miles and was a little bored, but started to imagine what the origin might have been.  My best guesses were either a sports facility or a not very good theatrical production.  Or, maybe a daycare center.  Went on to look up the actual origin and it was somewhat disappointing compared to my fantasy.  An early visitor comment on being treated fairly by the original Anglo settler who went on to name the community Fair Play.  Too bad they never had a Theater.

Say What?

"People talking without speaking,/ People listening without hearing" song lyrics by Paul Simon Went for a hearing exam yesterday. Some hearing loss as I assumed, probably from being around noisy farm equipment years ago and maybe from severe ear infections as a child.  Good news and bad news from exam... Bad news, I can't hear female voices.  Good news, I can't hear female voices

Gasland

Watched Gasland tonight.  This movie should be required viewing, in my opinion, for everyone touched in any way by the natural gas industry.   Even if you are just a consumer it is important to see.  But, particularly if you live in an area of wells, processing, pipelines, etc, you should see.  The possible effects on our water, wildlife, air and landscape are cause for concern.  And, the lack of safeguards for those close to this industry whether living proximity or industry workers is alarming.  Watch the movie and/or visit the web site.

Hands at Baylor

Although I have been there dozens of times, I never fail to take the time to view the hand exhibit when at the main Baylor hospital in Dallas.  Bronze hand casts of many famous people from the last half century.   If you are in the area, it is worth seeing.
