Bernie Tiede: Can I tell you? I am not fond of cremations.


Went to see this movie last week after getting a call from a couple of friends.  If you have ever lived in or spent any time in a small town you have to see this movie.  It is based on the true murder story of a wealthy widow by the local funeral director in Carthage, TX.  You may laugh until you cry or choke on your pop corn.  The real people of the town are so good in the movie they couldn't have possibly been cast better by Hollywood.  One of my favorite lines was from a local "The jury pool had more tattoos that teeth". But the movie belongs to Jack Black.  If he doesn't get an Academy nomination for his role, then the Academy is a farce.

Cynthia McIntire Born to Ben and Montie Holmes Wann, the second of five children on April 9, 1927. Cynthia was born, raised, and lived in Paluxy where she spent the next more than ninety years. Only leaving Paluxy for a few months in Florida early in her marriage and then for her last couple of years in a nursing home as the result of a fall followed by a stroke. She is survived by Clinton (Junior to many), husband of 73 years, children Terry, Sheila, Sharon, sister Glenda, sister in law Jean, 7 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Wild Melons

The things that trigger our memories are fascinating. Driving down the road a couple of days ago and saw a wild melon vine growing down the road cut. All of a sudden I was 10 years old again and eating biscuits with wild melon (pine melon?) preserves at a childhood friend's house. The preserves were thick and very sweet. Been craving them all week.

"A dull pencil is greater than the sharpest memory" arthur unknown BC (before calculators) I remember when I was growing up, many of the farmers and ranchers carried these pocket pencils.  They were the calculator of the day.  And any flat surface would suffice for figuring the cost of a load of hay, how much you owed the hired hands, etc.  Seemed like there were numbers every where; on the faded paint of truck fenders, door frames and many pages of pocket sized note pads.
