Nancy and I went to see this production about the career of Molly Ivins today.  If you happen to have been a fan of Molly's, you should make a point to see.  Even if you weren't particularly aware of her writing, you will find this show very entertaining and inspiring.  Molly Ivins' columns and books skewered many very deserving politicians.  She stuck up for what is right for women, the poor, minorities, etc. and had a fine time doing so.

All to often we don't speak up as we see injustices.  Maybe if we could all be just a little like Molly, the world be a little better place.

Wild Melons

The things that trigger our memories are fascinating. Driving down the road a couple of days ago and saw a wild melon vine growing down the road cut. All of a sudden I was 10 years old again and eating biscuits with wild melon (pine melon?) preserves at a childhood friend's house. The preserves were thick and very sweet. Been craving them all week.

"A dull pencil is greater than the sharpest memory" arthur unknown BC (before calculators) I remember when I was growing up, many of the farmers and ranchers carried these pocket pencils.  They were the calculator of the day.  And any flat surface would suffice for figuring the cost of a load of hay, how much you owed the hired hands, etc.  Seemed like there were numbers every where; on the faded paint of truck fenders, door frames and many pages of pocket sized note pads.
